Aerial units to begin Independence Day parade in Minsk on 3 July

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – The army parade in honor of Independence Day in Minsk will begin with a flyover of aerial units, BelTA learned from Vladimir Makarov, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Central Office for Ideology of the Belarusian Defense Ministry, on 26 June.

According to the source, the parade of troops of the Minsk garrison will be the key event in festivities on 3 July. The parade will begin at 21:00. This year’s parade will begin with a flyover of aviation above the capital city. “Our citizens and guests will be able to see modern combat aircraft and helicopters of the Belarusian and Russian air forces,” Vladimir Makarov said.

The aerial units will be followed by 25 parade units on foot and 26 parade units on vehicles. Three units of female officers – two from the army and one from the Internal Affairs Ministry – will take part in the parade for the first time ever. The share of new or upgraded vehicles will be greatly increased. For instance, new or profoundly upgraded hardware will represent about 70% of the mechanized column.

The parade of Minsk garrison units will end with a military drill performance of the guard of honor company of the Minsk military commandant office. Over 5,000 military personnel will take part in the parade. The parade will also feature over 280 wheeled and tracked vehicles and about 50 aircraft and helicopters.

Representatives of eight foreign armies are expected to participate in this year’s Independence Day parade. Representatives of the Russian and Chinese armies will traditionally take part in the parade. Banner groups from the armed forces of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are supposed to take part in the parade for the first time.
