MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) - In Belarus, there is a growing interest in active and religious tourism, Marina Mastashova, a consultant at the planning office at the tourism department with the Sport and Tourism Ministry, told reporters, BelTA has learned.
Active tourism is growing mainly thanks to enthusiasts of cycling trails and kayaking. “Today, there are travel companies that specialize in water, biking, and hiking excursions and provide appropriate equipment. This tourism is being developed in the Augustow Canal, national parks, protected areas,” Marina Mastashova said.
Interest in religious tourism is growing, according to Marina Mastashova, because many churches and monasteries have been restored in recent years and also thanks to the efforts of the clergy themselves.
Cultural-educational and military-patriotic tours are, traditionally, in demand. More and more tourists go to see the landmarks not only in Minsk and regional centers but also to district capitals.
In Belarus there are about 1,500 tourist and excursion routes.
