MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – About 20 countries will take part in the 30th edition of Minsk International Book Fair, with Russia as the guest of honor, Dmitry Makarov, executive director of the book fair, told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“Now we have approximately 19 countries, but we believe that more will join, because applications are still coming,” Dmitry Makarov said. He added that a total of 20 or 21 countries are expected to participate. According to him, the number of those who have already applied is 1.5 times bigger than in 2022.
“Russia will be the guest of honor at this book fair. It will be represented by a big collective booth in the center. Russian publishing houses will also display their products at separate booths, the total area of which will exceed 150 m2. All kinds of books will be showcased at the expo - both popular and quite rare ones,” said Dmitry Makarov.
A large delegation from Uzbekistan is expected to come to the book fair. “They will also bring a lot of books, which is quite unusual. We have never had such a large exposition from Uzbekistan,” the executive director noted.
Dmitry Makarov said that China will have a large stand, just like in previous years.
This year the number of visitors is expected to be much bigger than in the previous year, he added.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will help arrange book presentations at the International Quarter. The presentations will be made by diplomatic missions accredited in Belarus. The opening of the International Quarter is scheduled for 23 March.
According to Deputy Information Minister Igor Buzovsky, this will be the debut of the International Quarter project at the book fair. “Although we always have a wide international representation, we decided to arrange a separate international quarter with a single concept,” he said. This concept will help visitors to build a better understanding of what kind of literature is read in various countries.
