MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – The 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is expected to gather over 600 participants. The figure was mentioned during the first joint session of the Belarusian committee and the Russian one in charge of organizing the forum in St Petersburg on 5 April, the press service of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus told BelTA.
All the regions of Belarus and over 70 regions of Russia – a total of over 600 participants – will take part in the forum, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Yuri Vorobyev said. The plenary session will focus on interregional cooperation as the foundation for forming common cultural and humanitarian space of the two countries. On the whole, the forum will be dedicated to cultural, humanitarian, and educational cooperation.
According to Deputy Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Marianna Shchetkina, the roundtable session on the strategy of development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will be an important part of the forum. “All the questions our nations are concerned about, all the questions our governments and our parliaments are working on will be discussed on the sidelines of the forum,” Marianna Shchetkina said. According to the senator, “The development of regional cooperation as an effective tool to form common cultural and humanitarian space” may become its slogan.
Agreements on cooperation between regions of Belarus and Russia will be signed during the forum as well as commercial contracts and other kinds of partnership documents. Marianna Shchetkina noted: “There are already topics for discussion that representatives of the private sector suggest. There are a lot of proposals. Business cooperation councils are intent on discussing problems and finding solutions.” During the session Belarus was also represented by the members of the Presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Viktor Sirenko, Aleksandr Popkov, and Vladimir Pantyukhov.
The 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is scheduled to take place in St Petersburg on 16-18 July.
