Founded in Minsk 10 years ago, Yuri Bashmet International Festival has won recognition as one of the most exciting and prestigious festivals of classical music in Europe. Every year its ideological inspirers – USSR People's Artist Yuri Bashmet and famous Belarusian pianist, graduate of the London Royal Academy of Music Rostislav Krimer - get more and more offers from the best orchestras, musicians, virtuosos and singers from all over the world.
The tenth festival is star-studded. The playbill features the outstanding musicians of modern times Viktor Tretyakov and Julian Rachlin, one of the finest Mozart's interpreters legendary pianist Paul Badura-Skoda, the internationally renowned cross-over ensemble of Russian folk instruments Terem Kvartet, Ural Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Russia People's Artist Dmitry Liss... The program also includes numerous festival surprises are creative evenings, meetings, master-classes and, of course, amazing concerts.
At the opening of the festival Maestro Yuri Bashmet presented a new production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin accompanied by the State Symphony Orchestra Novaya Rossiya. The main parts were performed by opera singers of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters, and the Salzburg Theater. The guides to the world of the Pushkin poetry were People’s Artist of Russia Konstantin Khabensky and Actress of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater Olga Litvinova.
