In 2014, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered to declare 21 June the International Yoga Day. The idea that formally approved by the UN General Assembly has been supported in different parts of the world, and each year this special summer festival gathers more and more fans, including in Belarus. For the fourth year in a row, Minsk Gorky Park gathers numerous yoga fans on this day. Hundreds of people spread out their yoga mats on 16 June, in the run-up to the famous international date.
The summer festival organized by the Embassy of India in Belarus started with a morning open-air workshop from professional instructors and Minsk schools of yoga. During the three-hour challenge under the guidance of the Indian expert everyone could master the basic techniques and asanas from the course for beginners: the program included a set of dynamic Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) respiratory and meditation exercises. The little ones took part in special classes outdoors and a painting competition “The sun is the source of life energy and yoga”.
