Oktyabrskaya Street, one of the liveliest, most creative and hip places of Minsk, welcomed the vibrant urban art festival Vulica Brasil 2017 for the fourth year in a row. This time the increasingly popular Belarusian-Brazilian project also offered something new to the city, covering even more urban areas, going underground for the first time, and holding the first twenty-four-hour festive marathon in Belarus.
Twenty-five street artists from Belarus and Brazil were putting their creative ideas into effect and creating a new reality in Minsk over the course of several weeks, starting from 17 August. They used their paints to brighten up buildings in Oktyabrskaya Street, Zheleznodorozhnaya Street, Kalvariyskaya Street, near the streets Nemiga and Romanovskaya Sloboda.
The festival’s highlight was a twenty-four-hour festive marathon held from 3 to 4 September to mark the end of the project. During that sleepless night, the fest saw a batucada (a procession accompanied by an ensemble with drums and tambourines), a hot Brazilian carnival, theatrical and musical performances, fashion shows, and sets by famous DJs. Three stages, crafts fairs and art exhibitions, sports venues, an ecomarket and food courts, art workshops for children – all these things were arranged at the pedestrian Oktyabrskaya Street. Downtown Minsk has even seen a real sand beach with summerhouses, sun loungers, and a bar!
