Iryna Kurachkina of Belarus won the Women's Wrestling 57kg silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.In the final the Belarusian lost to Risako Kawai of Japan.
The Japanese athlete started the bout actively producing a takedown and kept a two-point advantage to the end of the first round. After the break the Japanese wrestler made a successful attack and pushed her opponent off the mat – 0-3. Another takedown secured a win for Risako Kawai.
“A lot of people have invested their efforts in this medal. It is to them that I want to dedicate the success. First of all, this is the national team of Belarus. This is our head coach Oleg Raikhlin, personal coach who has worked with me since the very beginning of my wrestling career, Artur Zaitsev, Sergei Smal. This is the entire coaching staff, the doctor, the masseur, the sparring partners who helped me train for the Olympics,” the athlete said. “I have won silver. This is how the things are today. There is something to work on and to grow further."
