St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, a visiting card of Grodno, is the highest (50 meters) building in the ancient city. One of its towers has Europe’s oldest clock with a unique pendulum motion of the 12th-14th centuries. The church boasts its wooden altar with carved figures of apostles and saints and its wonderworking Icon of the Congregational Mother of God (Virgin Mary for students), a copy of the icon of the Mother of God of the Snow from the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore donated to the residents in 1664.
