Belarus, last year's Fed Cup finalist, drew the world number six Germany for the Fed Cup World Group quarterfinal, which was held at Chizhovka Arena in Minsk on 10-11 February 2018.
On day one Aryna Sabalenka (World No.63) saw off Tatjana Maria of Germany (58) 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Leader of the Belarusian team Aliaksandra Sasnovich (46) took a confident start but failed to keep up the pace due to health problems and lost the second singles rubber to Antonia Lottner (149) 5-7, 4-6.
On day two Vera Lapko (129) replaced Aliaksadra Sasnovich against German number one Tatjana Maria (58). The Belarusian stood firm in the two first sets. Tatjana Maria, however, managed to secure a solid lead in the third to take a win. Aryna Sabalenka’s confident victory over Antonia Lottner (149) 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 helped Belarus level off the score at 2-2.
The doubles rubber that was to decide the team advancing to the semifinal featured Aryna Sabalenka and Lidziya Marozava vs Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Tatjana Maria. The Belarusians won the first set on a tie break. The Germans tied the score in the second and won the third, 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 4-6.
