Capercaillie, a West-European species, is one of the famous inhabitants of the reserve. This beautiful bird is a real rarity for the Belarusian woods. Today, the population in the country is believed to be about 400 species.
In 2016, a capercaillie nursery was set up in the reserve in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and the Forestry Ministry of Belarus as part of the EU project. There are plans to release up to 70 birds into the wild annually and also sell them on the Belarusian and foreign markets with a view to increasing their population in Europe.
