On the last unusually hot Saturday of August the Upper Town of Minsk turned into a neighborhood… of Tbilisi, not only thanks to similar weather but, first of all, thanks to the Caucasus spirit. It was for the second time that the Minsk downtown hosted the Tbilisoba festival, celebrating Georgia, its capital city and harvest time. According to the organizers, the festival drew nearly 20,000 guests in 2016.
The festival featured concerts, lively dances, master classes from the best Georgian chefs and, of course, the tasting of Georgia’s national dishes – khachapuri (cheese-pie), khinkali (dumplings), pkhali (chopped and minced vegetables), churchkhelas (candle-shaped candies)… Visitors were also invited to tramp grapes, make pottery and knit the national carpet, and even shear sheep.
This summer the Minsk Town Hall hosted four festivals celebrating the cultures of Korea, Poland, Ukraine and Georgia.
