Freestyle wrestler Maria Mamoshuk brought Belarus its third Olympic silver medal in Rio.
In Brazil Maria Mamoshuk proved she deserved an Olympic medal. In the round of last 16 the Belarusian took an 8-2 victory over Kazakhstan’s Yekaterina Larionova. The wrestler then saw off Sweden’s Katarina Henna Johansson 7-2 in the quarterfinal and beat American Yelena Pirozhkova 3-2 to secure a place in the final. It is only in the final bout that Maria Mamoshuk had no response to fast-moving Risako Kawai of Japan, losing 0-6.
Bronze medals in the women’s -63kg class went to Kazakhstan’s Yekaterina Larionova and Poland’s Monika Michalik.
