Fountain opening ceremony in Minsk

Fountain opening ceremony in Minsk
29 Apr 2016

The season of fountains opened in Minsk and other Belarusian cities in the run-up to big May holidays.

Thirty-three fountains were switched on in Minsk at 18:00 on 29 April. The oldest fountain in the Belarusian capital, A Boy with a Swan, marked its 140 anniversary in 2014. The renovation of this fountain in the Alexander Park was completed this spring. Thanks to the renovation, water circulation systems were replaced and the fountain basin was decorated with bronze frog statues. This is how the fountain looked like in 1874…

The beautiful ceremony of reopening the urban fountains was traditionally held near the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus, where Minsk’ biggest fountain (about 300,000 liters of water) is located. The fountain perfectly fits the architectural ensemble of this famous area of the Belarusian capital. Soaring foamy water jets resemble the front of the theater. The fountain illumination is sharply white, the same as the building.

In Minsk there are nearly 60 artificial foutnaines. The fountain Sails on Lake Komsomolskoye in the Victory Park is the highest and most powerful fountain of the Belarusian capital. The fountain in Nezavisimosti Square has the biggest number of jets.

Following Minsk fountains were reopened in Gomel, Mogilev, Vitebsk and many other cities. It is planned that the water cascades will operate from 10.00 to 21.00 until October.
