Eminent Belarusians honored with awards For Spiritual Revival, special prizes of Belarus President

It has become a good tradition in Belarus to honor eminent people who contribute to the spiritual development of the country, the conservation and enrichment of its cultural heritage on the main stage of the Palace of the Republic in Minsk on a January day every year. The 2016 edition of the event was particularly symbolic as it opened the Year of Culture in Belarus that will be full of exciting events and anniversary celebrations.

The official ceremony to present the awards For Spiritual Revival, President’s special prizes to Belarusian art luminaries and special prizes Belarusian Sports Olympus brought together the 2015 awardees and guests on 12 January.

The award For Spiritual Revival established by the head of state in 1997 is one of the most prestigious awards in Belarus. It is given to art luminaries, scientists, teachers, doctors, ministers of religion, and social workers. Since its establishment, the award has been conferred on more than 90 people and institutions.

The 2015 list of awardees includes the team of the National Art Museum of Belarus and the national research center Mother and Child, the authors of the requiem book To Live and Remember, Bishop of Borisov and Maryina Gorka Veniamin, and Cheslav Kurechko, the rector of the Holy Trinity Parish religious community in the village of Rositsa of the Verkhnedvinsk district local religious association “Vitebsk Diocese of the Roman-Catholic Church in Belarus”.

President’s special prizes were bestowed on ten Belarusian art luminaries and institutions, including the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater, the Maxim Gorky National Academic Drama Theater, the Belarusian State Youth Theater, the Television News Agency of the Belarusian TV and Radio Company, and the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War. The President also conferred special awards on physicists Sergei Ginak, Leonid Tanin, and Pavel Apanasevich who create optical copies of national relics, one of the authors of Trostenets Memorial sculptor Konstantin Kostyuchenko, artist Anatoly Kuznetsov, young muralist Anton Belsky, and children’s ensemble Onoshkovskiye Muzykanty (Onoshki Musicians).
