More than 6,000 polling stations opened for early voting in Belarus and the country’s embassies abroad on 6 October. This form of participation in the electoral campaign is commonplace in many countries and is popular with the Belarusians. Voting in Belarus is in person only. Therefore early voting allows citizens to use their voter rights and do it in the time most convenient for them in case they cannot do it on the main election day.
During the five days of early voting the polling stations in the country and abroad are open from 10.00 to 14.00 and from 16.00 to 19.00. Voters must prove their identity to vote in the president election. The ID options include: a passport, a formal certificate of loss of passport, military ID for conscripts, public servant ID, student ID, pensioner photo ID or driver's license.
Belarusian citizens can cast their votes in Belarus only in their registered area of residence. No absentee certificates are allowed. The fact guarantees that nobody will vote twice.
The early voting period will end on 10 October. 11 October is the main voting day in this year’s president election campaign.
