The music nights at the Minsk Town Hall are becoming more popular with Belarusians, turning into a wonderful tradition of the summer Minsk. Almost every Saturday night in summer the famous historical quarter of the city gathers thousands of live music fans…
Performing jazz here in June were virtuosos from Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Germany, France, the UK and, of course, Belarus. In July the open-air music project Classics at Minsk Town Hall featured world-renowned masterpieces of Mozart, Strauss and Haydn, Baroque compositions by Bach, Handel and Vivaldi, as well as popular tango tunes.
One of the most memorable events was the final concert dedicated to the 250th birthday of talented composer, art patron and diplomat Michal Kleofas Oginski, whose anniversary is included in the UNESCO Calendar of Events.
In honor of Michal Kleofas Oginski Minsk hosted a unique open-air ball with music, dancing and the reenactment on 1 August. Works of the composer, and also the music composed by his famous contemporaries, teachers and students were performed by the ancient music bands Brevis and Cantabile, soloist of the Classical Music House, opera and jazz singer Margarita Levchuk, participants of the project The Era of Duke Michal Kleofas Oginski. The evening was crowned with the legendary polonaise Farewell to the Homeland which Michal Kleofas Oginski composed in Oginskis’ family estate in Zalesye before immigration.
