From Rome to Minsk: Flame of Peace torch relay of the 2nd European Games presented in the Belarusian capital

Minsk played host to the presentation of the Flame of Peace torch relay that will start in Rome on 3 May with the lighting ceremony of the 2nd European Games flame to last for 50 days. The flame will be taken to Europe’s highest mountain Mont Blanc, and also to Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland. On 12 May, the torch will arrive in Brest, Belarus to be carried through 60 localities of the country. The entire route of the torch relay will make up 7,700km.

The 2nd European Games torch will be carried by 450 people, including outstanding athletes, scientists, cultural, art and public figures. Among them will be singer Teo, four-time Olympic champion in fencing Yelena Belova, Belarus’ Paralympic swimmer Aleksei Talay, legendary Belarusian strongman Vyacheslav Khoroneko, People’s Artist of Belarus Vladimir Gostyukhin. The final destination of the Flame of Peace relay will be Dinamo Stadium in Minsk. The flame will be brought to the stadium during the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games on 21 June.

The uniform for the Flame of Peace torchbearers was presented on 6 April as well. It was developed by Belarusian designer Yulia Latushkina. The torch was made by Belarusian designer Yulia Braychuk together with specialists of the Novogrudok Gas Equipment Plant. The torch weighs some 1.7kg and is 81cm high. It is made of stainless steel. The torch has special holders and can be attached to a bike and a wheelchair.
