International tournament for the prizes of the famous champion in Minsk
6 Dec 2018

About 100 gymnasts from ten countries gathered in the Belarusian capital for the international rhythmic gymnastics tournament for the prizes of Marina Lobach. Thirty years ago she won gold at the Winter Olympics in Seoul to become the first Soviet Olympic champion in the sport. Young athletes from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Israel took part in the competitions at the Palace of Rhythmic Gymnastics in Minsk. Italy and Cyprus took part in the event for the first time.

The Marina Lobach tournament has been held in Minsk since 2002. The event quickly won recognition among international experts and joined the list of the most important sport events of the year in Belarus. The favorites of the 16th edition of the tournament included winners of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires Daria Trubnikova and Lala Kramarenko of Russia, Khrystyna Pohranychna of Ukraine and bronze medalist of the Junior European Championship Valeria Sotskova from Israel.

The Belarusian team did well at the tournament, winning eight (six gold) medals. Daria Grokhotova clinched the champion title in the all-around (the rope and the ball). Arina Krasnorutskaya, Kseniya Steshits and Darya Tkacheva won silver in the team competition. The main prize - Marina Lobach statuette - went to a Belarusian for the third year in a row. This time, it was Anna Kamenshchikova. She scored 37,150 in the hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon events.
