The exhibition “Photos and materials: Japanese graphic arts of the 1970s” at Belarus’ National Art Museum showcases the works of 14 artists who have had a significant impact on the art of engraving in contemporary Japanese art. By the way, the choice of the time period was not random: the 1970s is considered a “golden age” of Japanese national graphic arts.
Interestingly enough, the artists whose works are on display in Minsk combined two types of visual art: photography and engraving. Using various engraving techniques, they made their works more realistic to transform a viewer’s understanding of internal and external characteristics of a piece of art.
