Pixel Illuminations and Futuristic Christmas Tree in Minsk: Christmas Lights Now On

Pixel Illuminations and Futuristic Christmas Tree in Minsk: Christmas Lights Now On
15 Dec 2018

A sparkling array of Christmas lights got bursting into color all over Minsk with the onset of dusk on 15 December: Christmas trees, Christmas illuminations, blazing light compositions, Christmas markets.

The country’s main Christmas tree has debuted a “pixel outfit”. The 35-meter tall tree in Oktyabrskaya Square is surrounded by glowing compositions, two massive baubles made of lights and market stalls made of glass.

The futuristic spiral Christmas tree at the Palace of Sports is another New Year novelty. It is overlooking a Christmas fair with cozy little pavilions where you can buy handmade souvenirs, Christmas tree decorations, pastry and mulled wine.

The Christmas tree at the National Library is decorated by letters of the Belarusian alphabet. Next to it is an open “book”, one of the biggest light installations in Minsk (8.5m high and 12m wide).

Apart from that, the festive mood is created by thematic figures: An 11-meter illuminated 3D ball near the Football Center, a harp at the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society, a tractor in Partizansky Avenue, a “goody bag” not far from the GUM department store, a puck near Minsk Arena, a clown near the Belarusian State Circus, and an ancient manuscript with a pen in Yakuba Kolasa Square.
