Minsk hosted the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June that became a true sports highlight of 2019. The tournament convincingly showed the world that Belarus is well-fitted to host highest-level competitions. About 4,000 athletes from 50 countries competed in 200 medal events across 15 sports.
All in all, Team Belarus clinched 69 medals: 24 gold, 16 silver and 29 bronze. Two Belarusian athletes - Yury Shcherbatsevich (shooting) and Tatsiana Khaladovich (javelin throw) won licenses for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. Team Belarus placed second in the overall medal count, losing only to Team Russia.
