This year, the Palace of Independence welcomed orphaned children and kids from foster and adoptive families. Holding Christmas celebrations for young Belarusians in the Belarus president’s working residence, one of the main symbols of the independent Belarus, is becoming a good tradition. At the very end of 2017, Alexander Lukashenko hosted 250 talented schoolchildren and university students from across Belarus at the New Year's Eve party at the Palace of Independence. During the first days of 2018, the building was filled with children’s voices and laughter again: the Ceremonial Hall saw children from Minsk, Minsk Oblast, and Mogilev Oblast on 4 January. Next day, it played host to young guests from Brest Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast, Gomel Oblast, and Grodno Oblast.
Despite the surprisingly warm weather, the interactive New Year party created a wonderful winter atmosphere that occurs only during the New Year holidays. The feeling of miracle and magic, the anticipation of opening presents, and the taste of sweet treats will leave a lasting impression on the young visitors.
