11 Jun 2019

The BRSM Youth Union, the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus and the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History have launched the youth project Marathon 75 timed to the 75th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders.

The project kicked off in Minsk on 11 June. Its participants traveled across Belarus’ liberation and made stops in Baranovichi, Brest, Pruzhany, Grodno, Lida, Ostrovets, Molodechno, Zhodino, Begoml, Vitebsk, Mogilev, Gomel, the Mound of Glory in Minsk Oblast, and Minsk.

The main events of the marathon include the traveling exhibition “Liberation of Belarus”, open-air events “Flowers of Great Victory” and dialogues “Belarus Remembers”. Participants of the project have compiled the album “Belarus Remembers. Dear Faces of Victory” and the canvass “Belarus Remembers” representing a 6x12 meter large Belarusian flag with names of war heroes sewn on it. The canvass will be unveiled in Minsk during a festive procession on Independence Day on 3 June.

Every young Belarusian can contribute to the album. The album will feature photos and stories about their ancestors who took part in the Great Patriotic War. After the marathon is over the album and the canvass will be handed over to the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History.
