MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – Chairperson of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina has presented an international observer card to Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev, BelTA has learned.
“It is card number one which, traditionally, is your lucky number,” Lidia Yermoshina noted.
She said that a mission of observers from the CIS led by Sergei Lebedev has been registered in Belarus. All in all, the CIS member states deployed 25 observers to monitor the elections in Belarus.
Lidia Yermoshina also pointed out that Belarus expects to welcome observers from the PACE, OSCE/ODIHR and several other organizations.
The chief election official said that as many as 110 district election commissions and seven territorial commissions have been formed in Belarus. She added that the territorial commissions are set up ahead of the parliamentary elections in Belarus for the first time. Lidia Yermoshina lauded this legislative change. She pointed out that the election commissions in districts, regions and the city of Minsk comprise representatives of political parties. The Communist Party of Belarus is the most widely represented one.
