MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) – The current parliamentary campaign will be characterized by the high level of political activity, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina said in an interview with the Belarusian 1 TV Channel on 10 July, BelTA has learned.
According to Lidia Yermoshina, such conclusion can be made judging by the start of the election campaign and the high activity of the parties, including the opposition ones (three of them are super active at the moment). If they can collect signatures (if they cannot, they still have the opportunity to get nominated via congresses) they will naturally conduct their election campaigns.
“A district may have one candidate (God forbid, this happens). In this case, the candidate needs to convince voters that they need to come to the polling stations, that it is in their best interests,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
As was reported, the nomination of candidates began on 3 July and will run till 1 August. Registration of candidates will be running from 2 through 11 August. Candidates can be nominated by political parties, labor collectives and citizens. In all cases, the candidates can be nominated only by citizens of the Republic of Belarus, aged 18 and older. The candidates can start campaigning from the day of their registration till 10 September. Campaigning is prohibited on voting day - 11 September.
