MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – I believe that voters are well-informed about the current electoral campaign, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina said as she talked to the media on 29 July, BelTA has learned.
“I believe that voters are informed well enough. I admit that sometimes we even go over the top with me broadcast by all channels in the evening airtime. We should probably loosen the grip a bit so that people do not get sick of us. The website of the CEC, I think, provides timely updates and feedback on the processes that are running during the current campaign,” Lidia Yermoshina noted.
The CEC official pointed out that she is not entitled to give recommendations to the media on whether to expand or decrease the coverage of the parliamentary elections. “Media companies have their own editorial policy, and I have no complaints about the sufficiency of information. Moreover, I am absolutely sure that once the campaigning begins, the role of political analytics will increase and the election theme will acquire a more rigidly defined political nature,” Lidia Yermoshina remarked.
As for the voters’ interest in the current parliamentary campaign, the head of the CEC said: “It would be an exaggeration to say that voters, all as one, enthusiastically follow all of my remarks and appearances in print media. Of course, there are some people interested in politics. Others’ interest has probably become less keen during the summer vacation period and due to other issues that households are currently dealing with. Still, I think that in September, when the voters will be able to evaluate candidates’ speeches, the interest in the elections will increase,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
