MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – The further improvement of the Belarusian election legislation will be discussed after the parliamentary election, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina said in an interview with Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about possible transformations in the national election legislation in the run-up to the parliamentary election, Lidia Yermoshina noted that the golden medium in this process will be found in the law enforcement practice. “We will improve it. We will support the proposals which will comply with our traditions and legislative provisions. We will set aside unreasonable and impractical solutions which contradict our legislation. I am absolutely convinced that we will review the issue of improving the election legislation after the election. Moreover, we always act like this regardless of the recommendations,” the CEC chairperson said.
Lidia Yermoshina also commented on the main guidelines of the State of the Nation Address in which Alexander Lukashenko said that the forthcoming political campaign will be an exam of the society’s political culture. “We take this exam every time when the election campaign gets underway. It is an exam for the government, a political maturity test. This exam will show whether the MPs deserve the mandates given to them by voters. It is the first time we have started talking about the political culture. This means that the elections are advancing to a higher level of compliance with the requirements which are suggested by, for example, international organizations,” she said.
Speaking about the competition at the forthcoming election, the CEC chairperson said that the highest competition will be in Minsk and other industrial and education centers.
