Yermoshina: Belarus needs a class of professional politicians

MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – Belarus needs a class of professional politicians, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina made the statement in an interview with the ONT TV channel. The Matter of Principle TV program was aired on 12 September, BelTA informs.

The chairperson of the Central Election Commission believes that the results of the parliamentary elections should promote the self-sufficiency of candidates and political parties, ensure a possible transition to the proportional representation system or the mixed-member proportional representation system. “After all, we need to develop a class of professional politicians,” Lidia Yermoshina is convinced.

In her words, it is good that the people who have reached success in their industries take part in the elections. “However, they are not professional politicians. As a result, they refused to speak on television, to take part in televised debates. These are working people, they are not public people. But it is impossible to hold the elections without publicity,” she explained.
