MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – 38 women have been elected as new Belarus’ MPs, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told a press conference on 12 September, BelTA has learned.
According to the CEC head, the number of women in the parliament has increased by 9 persons in comparison with the 2012 parliamentary campaign. Now, women will occupy 34% of the sixth-convocation House of Representatives.
Singer Irina Dorofeyeva has been elected an MP in Minsk. The new parliament will also feature a representative of opposition, Yelena Anisim (works in the Center for the Belarusian Culture Research, member of the Belarusian Language Society), and member of the United Civil Party Anna Kanopatskaya, Lidia Yermoshina said.
