Over 2,300 national observers accredited for parliamentary elections in Belarus

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) - According to the latest data, the central, territorial and district election commissions for the elections of deputies to the House of Representatives of the seventh convocation have accredited 2,359 national observers, BelTA learned from the website of the Central Election Commission of Belarus.

The parties have sent 91 observers. The Communist Party of Belarus has sent the biggest number of observers - 75. Public associations have deployed 2,145 observers. Here the leaders are trade unions (494), the national public association Belaya Rus (484) and the Belarusian BRSM Youth Union (415). Some 86 observers have been nominated by citizens, 37 by labor collectives.

Observers accredited at the district election committees are entitled to be present as these commissions receive the protocols on the results of voting at polling stations. The observer, who is sent to the meetings of the precinct election commission, has the right, among other things, to observe the relevant polling station. During early voting and on the voting day, observers have the right to receive information on the number of voters on the voters’ lists and on the number of voters who took part in the voting.

In addition, 326 international observers have been accredited for the parliamentary elections in Belarus, including 278 from the CIS and 42 from the OSCE/ODIHR. Foreign experts have the right to attend the meetings of election commissions, to meet with candidates for deputies and their proxies, to observe the issuance of ballots, and the voting process.

Elections to the House of Representatives are slated for 17 November, while elections to the Council of the Republic are scheduled for 7 November.
