Opinion: An MP should love his or her country and know how to work with people

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – A member of the parliament should love his or her country and should know how to work with people. The statement was made by Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova as she cast her vote at polling station No.507 in Minsk on 17 November, BelTA has learned.

Natalya Kochanova said: “In my opinion, it should be a person who loves his or her country and the people. Working in the parliament is a complicated job. One has to develop legislation, which is a very important and responsible matter because people will live and the country will develop according to these laws. Apart from that, one has to know how to work with people.”

According to the head of the Belarus President Administration, it is very important for elected MPs to regularly meet with people, meet with them personally and answer the questions people are concerned about.

Representing the vital interests of people, who elect the MPs, and tackling the tasks of current interest for the country are also part of the parliamentary work. “The head of state talked to reporters at a polling station for quite some time today. He absolutely correctly said that sovereignty and independence, tranquility in our country are the most important things,” Natalya Kochanova noted.

“MPs do a lot of work. In my opinion, this work is interesting. This is why the worthiest people should be elected to the parliament,” she stressed.

The official told reporters she had come to the polling station in a festive mood. “I’ve voted for the worthiest candidate, who will represent our constituency in the parliament. I think I’ve made the right choice,” she said.

Voting proceeds vigorously in the country. It is confirmed in all regions that people come to polling stations with pleasure, that it is a celebration for them, Natalya Kochanova noted. She thanked all the Belarusians for taking an active civil stance, for taking an active part in a very important political campaign. She also thanked personnel of the election commissions and all those who offer shopping opportunities and create a festive mood at polling stations.
