MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) – By 21 October, the Central Election Commission (CEC), as well as lower-level election commissions have accredited 4,488 national observers who will monitor the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, BelTA learned from the website of the CEC.
The majority of national observers are representatives of public associations (4,100), like trade unions (937), the BRSM Youth Union and the Belaya Rus public association (881 and 848 respectively).
Political parties have nominated 165 observers by now, of whom 138 are representatives of the Communist Party of Belarus.
Observers accredited by district election commissions have the right to observe the handover of election result protocols. Observers accredited by precinct election commissions can monitor the electoral process at the respective polling station, among other things. During the early voting and on election day, observers have the right to receive information about the number of voters included in voting lists and the number of people who cast the ballot.
In addition to national observers, accreditation was granted to 356 international observers, including 302 observers from the CIS, 42 observers from the OSCE/ODIHR and 12 observers representing election commissions of other states. Foreign experts have the right to attend sessions of election commissions, meet with candidates and their proxies, monitor the handover of ballots and the voting process.
The elections to the House of Representatives will be held on 17 November, to the Council of the Republic - on 7 November.
