MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – On 6 June Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed decree No.190 to set the date of the election to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the sixth convocation and Decree No. 191 to set the date of the election to the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the sixth convocation, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.
According to the documents, the election to the House of Representatives has been scheduled for 11 September 2016. The election to the Council of the Republic will take place from 18 June to 18 September 2016.
The dates have been chosen in line with the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, according to which the head of state calls the parliamentary election four months before the termination of the powers of the two houses. The parliamentary election is to be held no later than 30 days before the powers of the two chambers terminate. The term of the House of Representatives of the fifth convocation expires on 17 October 2016, that of the Council of the Republic – on 18 October 2016.
Nearly 110 precinct and 6,149 district election commissions (including 49 commissions abroad) will be set up during the election to the House of Representatives.
International observers are expected to be invited to monitor the parliamentary election in the Republic of Belarus.
The organization of the election will be financed from the national budget.
