MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) - Belarus is set to hold maximally transparent, democratic elections, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told media on 5 September, BelTA has learned.
“We have recently discussed these matters with my counterparts in Potsdam and Bratislava. We are set to hold the elections in the most transparent and democratic manner. The Central Election Commission has taken a number of steps to improve the electoral process,” Vladimir Makei noted.
The minister stressed that some individuals visit Belarus and speak about the lack of democracy in the country even before the elections are held. “Such statements arouse suspicion that these people come to the country with prewritten conclusions. Such an approach is unacceptable for us. We believe that the situation should be assessed taking into account concrete results, figures and facts. Even bare figures and facts are not the main thing here. One should see how the situation evolves and what is behind these figures and facts. Only this approach will provide an objective analysis,” he said.
