MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – The parliamentary election campaign in Belarus is well-organized. It is running in strict compliance with the national legislation, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev heading the CIS election observation mission told reporters on 12 July, BelTA has learned.
Sergei Lebedev pointed out that the election campaign in Belarus is gaining momentum. “It is well-organized, and is running in strict compliance with the Belarusian legislation. So far, the elections proceed calmly,” the official added.
The Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee noted that the CIS mission has started monitoring the election campaign in Belarus. As many as 25 long-term observers have already been accredited. These are diplomats and representatives of the CIS Executive Committee. “They work in close cooperation with the Central Election Commission and law-enforcement agencies, monitor the formation of election commissions of all levels, and maintain contact with the media,” Sergei Lebedev said.
“As the election day approaches, the mission is bolstering its activities,” he pointed out. The number of election observers from the CIS will grow. Sergei Lebedev said that the number of long-term observers is expected to reach 44. Besides, some 300 short-term observers will monitor the parliamentary election campaign in Belarus.
