Kosinets: Belarus elections well-organized, in compliance with legislation

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – The elections in Belarus were held in an orderly manner and in compliance with the laws, head of the President Administration Alexander Kosinets told the media following the meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.

Alexander Kosinets emphasized that the elections, which were recognized valid in all 110 constituencies of the country, were competitive.

According to the head of the President Administration, for the first time the Parliament will include representatives of various parties (United Civil, Liberal-Democratic), movements, Association of the Belarusian Language and also other associations, which will mean an alternative point of view on various bills.

“The President considers that the views must be different literally on every point; there must be a counterbalance. The fact that today there is a variety of associations, means that there wil be different views,” Alexander Kosinets said.

The Head of the President Administration stressed that the new parliament will be the youngest one. The average age of the MPs in the previous parliament was 52.3 years old. The average age of newly-elected MPs will be 49.7 years old. “As for the gender profile, there will be 38 women, eight more than in 2012. All the new MPs have a university degree, with 17 serving in the government bodies, 27 working in the social and cultural sector, 25 – in the industry and agro-industrial complex. This means that commissions will be highly professional and they will work on the improvement of the current legislation in order to contribute to the efficient social and economic development of our country,” Alexander Kosinets said.
