MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) - Former and current Charges d’affaires of the United States to Belarus will observe the parliamentary elections in Belarus on 11 September. This information was confirmed in Belarus’ Central Election Commission.
Former Charge d’affaires of the United States of America to Belarus Scott Rauland will arrive in Belarus as part of the mission of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Current Charge d’affaires Robert Riley has been accredited by the Central Election Commission as a representative of the diplomatic corps.
Chairwoman of Belarus’ Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina met with Charge d’affaires of the USA to Belarus Robert Riley on 6 September. Lidia Yermoshina said that “the American diplomat inquired about some procedural things because he is going to observe the elections and he wanted to know what rights he will have as an observer during the vote count.”
All in all, 825 international observers have been accredited to monitor the parliamentary elections in Belarus, including 65 diplomats and 39 representatives of the OSCE PA.
