First OSCE ODIHR observers accredited to watch Belarusian parliament elections

MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has accredited the first observers sent by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to monitor the upcoming elections to the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament. As of 30 September four people were issued the relevant certificates, BelTA learned from the CEC website.

The Belarusian election organization agency has accredited a total of 103 international observers, including 99 representing the CIS states. The CIS mission includes 25 people representing the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus has sent invitations to monitor the parliamentary elections to international organizations like the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. In turn, the CEC has sent invitations to colleagues from former USSR republics except for Estonia and Lithuania. Invitations were also sent to the Association of World Election Bodies headquartered in South Korea and the National Election Commission of this country.

The elections to the House of Representatives will be held on 17 November, to the Council of the Republic on 7 November.
