CIS observers to work in every constituency of Belarus

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – CIS observers will be present at every constituency of Belarus, Yevgeny Sloboda, chief of the headquarters of the CIS observation mission at the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, told BelTA.

At present 44 long-term CIS observers are monitoring the pre-election campaigning in Belarus as well as the work with the voters’ lists. It is expected that the CIS observation mission will include more than 300 members. “Observers will attend every constituency in the country. None of them will be neglected,” noted Yevgeny Sloboda. On election day CIS observers will follow the election day procedures, including opening of voting stations, voting, counting and so on.

The CIS mission plans to hold a press conference on the day after the elections. The CIS observation mission will provide its assessment and preliminary results of the election campaign. The CIS observation mission is also expected to publish an interim report after the election day.

The parliamentary campaign in Belarus will be observed by experts and professionals, representatives of the national parliaments, election commissions, diplomatic corps who, according to Yevgeny Sloboda, worked at the elections in Belarus and other countries before. The mission will comprise experts from all the CIS states. It will also feature representatives of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the State Union of Belarus and Russia and other structures.

The ongoing pre-election campaign in Belarus will last until 10 September. Over 500 candidates are running for seats in the Belarusian parliament. The elections are due to take place on 11 September.
