MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) - The CIS mission recognized the elections as compliant with the Constitution and the electoral legislation of Belarus, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary, head of the CIS observation mission Sergei Lebedev told a press conference on the outcome of the observation of the parliamentary elections in Belarus by the CIS mission, BelTA has learned.
“The mission believes that the authorities of the Republic of Belarus, election commissions of all levels ensured the realization of the right of citizens to free expression during the election period. The CIS observation mission finds as follows: the 11 September elections were held in accordance with the Constitution and the electoral legislation of the Republic of Belarus,” Sergei Lebedev said.
Assessment of the recent election campaign by the CIS observers is based on the analysis of the actual information gathered in the course of the short-term and long-term observation and also on the basis of own observations.
“The 2016 parliamentary elections were transparent, open and free, and were held in compliance with the principles of democratic elections. The campaign was calm, competitive, and well-organized,” Sergei Lebedev stressed.
The CIS observation mission will issue its final statement once the official results of the elections are announced.
