MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has sent objections to the OSCE report asessing the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, CEC Chairperson Lidia Yermoshina told reporters on 22 November, BelTA has learned.
The CEC responded to the interim report published by observers representing the OSCE ODIHR, OSCE PA and PACE. “We have articulated our position and sent objections to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
The CEC chair admitted that she was disappointed, but called for objective evaluation of the report. She drew attention to a big number of registered candidates, including opposition members, the opportunity for a great number of people to express their views freely on state-run media and a possibility to arrange campaign rallies. “These facts are simply inspirational and they effectively refute all critical remarks alleging that the elections were not entirely free,” she said.
