MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) – The nomination conditions are equal for all parliamentary candidates, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina said during the online conference Parliamentary Elections 2016 hosted by BelTA when asked if opposition and pro-government candidates enjoyed equal conditions.
“I am absolutely convinced that all legislative, organizational, and legal conditions were equal. This is the main thing which voters and parliamentary candidates can demand from the state,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
At the same time, the CEC chairperson emphasized that there cannot be absolute equality in the process of nomination because candidates themselves are not equal. “A director of a plant will be nominated by the labor collective. A head of a public association or a party leader will be supported by a corresponding organization. No one will nominate an unemployed person. Therefore, absolute equality does not exist. Everything depends on the personality of a candidate,” she stressed.
