MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – On the main election day the CEC received 25 written queries and at least 52 verbal ones, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina.
According to preliminary data, on 17 November the CEC received 25 written requests for clarification of election laws, regulations concerning the establishment and operation of commissions, the organization of election campaigning, accreditation and operation of observers, voting procedures and vote count procedures. Some questions were not related to the elections.
Besides, the CEC registered at least 52 verbal queries. “Roughly half of the calls were placed when citizens were trying to find out at what polling station they could cast their votes. There were complaints about errors in the registry of voters, in how invitations to participate in elections were sent,” the CEC head said.
In her words, the CEC is now receiving calls from elderly citizens who had expected that ballot boxes would be brought to their homes so that they could cast their votes. “Nothing can be fixed now. The only thing the CEC can do is offer an apology for the unsatisfactory work of polling station commissions,” Lidia Yermoshina noted with regret.
