MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) - Chairman of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent an address to the peoples of Belarus and Russia on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Union State Treaty, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Union State Treaty

Dear friends!

I cordially congratulate you on the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Union State Treaty.

Exactly a quarter of a century ago, on 8 December 1999, we opened a new horizon in our relations. This momentous decision let the two fraternal peoples to overcome destructive tendencies in the economic and social sectors and move on to building a common union house on a solid foundation of historical, spiritual and cultural commonality, on the basis of respect for the sovereignty and national identity of the two states.

It is natural that the union of Belarus and Russia was widely supported by our peoples.

Today we can confidently say that the Union State has proved its worth and vividly demonstrates the success of this unique interstate association.

A lot has been done for two and a half decades. We have multiplied integration ties in a wide range of areas. We have implemented a number of innovative projects in various sectors of the national economy. We have engaged in joint space exploration, the development of high technologies and nuclear energy.

Citizens of Belarus and Russia have equal access to education, healthcare, social security system, unhindered right to employment, free movement and choice of place of residence.

In the difficult conditions of the past period, we have repeatedly seen how important are the opportunities offered by such integration and how valuable is the mutual support.

I am convinced that together we will overcome all difficulties, confirming the correctness of the course chosen 25 years ago to unite and jointly develop Belarus and Russia as part of the Union State for the sake of our peoples.

I sincerely wish you good health, wellbeing, peaceful sky, unity and confidence in the future.

Aleksandr Lukashenko

Minsk, 8 December 2024.
