MUSCAT, 18 December (BelTA) - A joint statement has been issued on the occasion of the working visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to the Sultanate of Oman, BelTA learned.
The visit, which lasted several days, took place at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.
The two leaders reaffirmed commitment to working together to achieve common goals and build relations based on mutual respect and understanding. The two parties welcomed the strengthening of bilateral ties and emphasized the importance of deepening partnership in economy, politics and culture. Clean energy, tourism, education, healthcare, technology, transportation and logistics were identified as areas for expanding the partnership.
The parties welcomed bilateral efforts to boost industrial cooperation, including joint projects to assemble machinery in Oman.
The leaders called for cooperation in agriculture and food security. The parties welcomed the successful talks at the Oman AgroFood 2024 exhibition and expressed support for joint projects in baby food and dairy products.
Both countries agreed that their respective bodies will explore the possibility of establishing and directing the work of a Belarusian-Omani committee to support joint initiatives.
Belarus welcomed the step to relax visa requirements for Belarusian citizens traveling to Oman for up to 14 days. The parties discussed the possibility of organizing direct flights between Belarus and Oman and an agreement on mutual visa waiver.
The President and the Sultan exchanged views on regional and international issues, reaffirming their respect for international law and the UN Charter, stressing the importance of cooperation within the framework of international organizations to ensure peace and security.
The delegations from both sides discussed their countries' development strategies and outlined ways to boost bilateral trade and investment and to reinvigorate cooperation on such issues as food security.
The Belarusian president expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and invited Sultan to visit Belarus.
