MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – The designers who worked on the mascot of the IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship hope that fans will love Spiky the Hedgehog, Nikita Ustinovich, the director of the DAB creative agency that designed the mascot, told journalists, BelTA has learned.
“A mascot of the world championship is a symbol of hockey. We hope it will be loved by all fans and admirers of ice hockey. A hedgehog fits well the spirit of Belarusian and Latvian teams as they are known for their uncompromising attitude and readiness to fight till the final buzzer,” Nikita Ustinovich noted.
More than 100 works of Belarus and Latvia representatives were submitted for the contest. The applications for participation were sent by both professional artists and hockey fans. The shortlist included 30 works, from which the celebrity jury chose the IIHF World Championship mascot.
Belarus and Latvia were named the co-hosts the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship at the IIHF Congress in 2017. Capitals of the two countries will co-host the championship on 7-23 May 2021.
