Belarus to send humanitarian aid to Pakistan affected by flooding

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – Belarus will send humanitarian aid to Pakistan to help it alleviate the consequences of devastating floods, BelTA learned from the Emergencies Ministry.

On behalf of the head of state and in pursuance of the Council of Ministers’ decision, the Emergencies Ministry joined efforts with other departments to provide humanitarian assistance to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan affected by devastating floods. The government of Pakistan will be given gasoline pumping units, a diesel generator, tents, bedding, medicines, clothes for adults and children. The aid will be gratuitous. It is estimated at Br920,000 and weighs about 27.5 tonnes. According to the Emergencies Ministry, humanitarian aid will be provided to Pakistan for the first time.

The cargo will be delivered by the Il-76 aircraft of TransAviaExport Airlines. The humanitarian cargo will be delivered and handed over by the Emergencies Ministry represented by Deputy Minister Igor Bolotov. Upon arrival in the capital of Pakistan, he will hold working meetings with officials of the host country.

The Emergencies Ministry noted that those who contributed to the humanitarian cargo included the Healthcare Ministry, the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee and the Bellegprom light industry concern. Belarus takes an active part in emergency response operations in other countries. Since 1999, Belarus has sent 77 humanitarian missions to provide assistance to 33 countries. The national special-purpose detachment ZUBR of the Emergencies Ministry is certified according to UN standards as an international search and rescue unit.
