Belarus pledges more humanitarian aid to Syria

MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – Belarus will keep providing humanitarian aid to Syria, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said following his meeting with Walid al Muallem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, on 22 July, BelTA has learned. 

Vladimir Makei said that since 2015 Belarus had sent four relief consignments to Syria. This humanitarian aid included foodstuffs, children’s clothing and footwear, medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, machinery and equipment for rebuilding Syria’s economy.

An important part of this humanitarian effort is Belarus’ recuperation program for Syrian children. This program is run under the aegis of the Belarusian president. The Belarusian head of state gave instructions to extend this program for another several years.

The foreign minister emphasized the importance of the further efforts aimed at maintaining and promoting an information and cultural exchange between the two nations.

Vladimir Makei thanked his Syrian counterpart for accepting the invitation to visit Belarus. He noted that today’s talks between the Syrian minister and the Belarusian president revealed a shared vision of bilateral cooperation.
