MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – Humanitarian cooperation between Belarus and China is vibrant and sometimes sets the pace for political and economic contacts, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Lukashevich said in an interview with BelTA.

“Humanitarian cooperation between Belarus and China is just as intensive as interaction in politics, trade and economy. It is no secret that in some cases humanitarian cooperation even outpaces or sets the dynamics for political and economic contacts. The two countries maintain contacts at all levels in culture, education and science, sports, tourism and healthcare,” noted Sergei Lukashevich.

He went on saying: “Free technical assistance from China has helped Belarus build iconic facilities and provide services in social security, humanitarian sphere and sports. I will give several examples. China’s aid helped build 38 social homes with 3,286 apartments, a 170-bed therapeutic bloc of a hospital in Borovlyany and a dormitory for Belarusian National Technical University. When the first COVID-19 cases were reported in Belarus, China sent large batches of much-needed vaccines free of charge.”

Other important projects mentioned by the first deputy minister included the International Swimming Pool, which has already become a landmark of the Belarusian capital, and the National Football Stadium.

Sergei Lukashevich noted that several new joint projects are currently in the pipeline.
